SIGMA INTEGRATED MARTIAL ARTS IS NOT A MARTIAL ARTS STYLE. IT IS A SYSTEM OF PRINCIPLES, CONCEPTS, TACTICS, AND TECHNIQUES FROM SPECIFICALLY CHOSEN MARTIAL ARTS, AND STRATEGIC COMBAT STUDIES THAT OUR FOUNDER GAINED EXTENSIVE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE.
MAJOR INFLUENCES ARE KI (CHI) BASED ARTS SUCH AS: AIKIDO, JAPANESE JUJUTSU, AIKIJUJITSU, JUDO, CHIN NA, AND WING CHUNG. OTHERS LIKE: MUAY THAI, WRESTLING, AND BOXING HAVE ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO SIGMA’S OVERALL STRUCTURE.
INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION AND PERSONALIZED INSTRUCTION ALLOW OUR STUDENTS TO RAPIDLY INCREASE THEIR 'FIGHTING' ABILITY, NOT ONLY DEVELOPING PHYSICAL SELF DEFENSE PROFICIENCY, BUT MENTAL AND VERBAL SKILLS TO DEESCALATE VOLITILE SITUATIONS.
DESIGNED FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO TRULY DEVELOP THE SKILLS, ABILITY AND POWER TO FIGHT, SURVIVE AND 'WIN' IN THE WORST POSSIBLE SITUATIONS (ABDUCTION, MULTIPLE ATTACKERS, WEAPONS, RIOTS...) – IF YOU WANT TRULY EFFECTIVE SELF DEFENSE STRATEGIES AND SKILLS THAT ALMOST ANYONE CAN MASTER AND APPLY, AND THE CONFIDENCE TO USE THEM THEN SIGMA IS PROBABLY FOR YOU.

Hello, my name is David Scime. I am a personal protection professional and security consultant who has developed and/or instructed courses of self-defense, arrest & control, de-escalation, workplace violence, active shooter and weapon retention for members of such agencies as the U.S. Secret Service, N.Y. State Police, Erie County Probation, Buffalo, Kenmore and Amherst Police. In California: San Francisco and Golden Gate Bridge Police. and numerous other municipal police departments and security firms.
I have over 45 years’ experience in Martial arts such as: Aikido, Judo, Aikijitsu, Muy Thai, Wing Chün, Pranza Corta and Amis. I currently hold 4 Black belts and have been instructing since 1992 when S.T.O.P. was developed.
I have over twenty years of experience as a drug and alcohol intervention and workplace violence instructor.
Implemented in 2001 S.T.O.P. is still primary standard operating procedure for security teams at all Starwood hotels.
S.T.O.P. was and is a specifically conceived system for self-defense and personal protection to primarily utilize specialized techniques to equalize size and strength differentials. What evolved from a few likeminded martial arts experts was truly groundbreaking. To focus on simplicity and common sense as the most important components (or if you will, "Techniques") of real personal protection as your first line of defense was unheard of. Still striving for effective innovation, The S.T.O.P. “team” annually enlists an advisory panel of top Law enforcement, Security and Martial arts experts to discuss and train in the latest Protection methods. As the 600th session will be taught this year, to date over 2,500 individuals have attended a S.T.O.P. class.
It truly saddens me that what is taught in many "self-defense" courses, and especially those designed for ' women is, to be polite... nonsense. Reality and common sense have been suspended and replaced with fantasy. Can any woman, or for that matter, a senior or child prevail in a prolonged confrontation with a determined male attacker? NO! Will joint locks, pressure points and high-flying kicks work in confined spaces like an elevator or automobile? Of course not! So why is it that some self-defense instructors teach things like grappling or fancy, complicated strikes and kicks? “Boxercise, Yoga Self-defense?” I want to cry.
The answer most times is they simply teach what they know. As a personal and executive protection specialist, here's what I know: The first and simplest technique of any self-defense or personal protection situation is to THINK! You don't even have to raise a finger.

I've been a roadhouse bouncer and a bodyguard to Presidents. I've learned (sometimes the hard way) that simple is best. If a technique looks too complicated .... it is. If it looks too pretty...it is. If you can't perform a technique quickly, effectively and under pressure, it's useless to you.
Let's talk about "SIMPLE" as it relates to self-defense. RUN AWAY! How simple is that? Or de-escalate an argument and walk away. However, for the sake of this discussion, let's assume that the "Fight or Flight" decision has been made for you. Simple is still the way.
Physical techniques that are easy to learn, remember and execute under pressure are the key. AND NO, I DON'T MEAN A KICK TO THE GROIN! Think about this, have you ever been accidently poked in the eye or the throat? Now think what the result of an intentional strike would be. Even a child could perform this technique with devastating effectiveness. Can you slap, stomp, bite, gouge, pull hair or head butt? Kids can, and without training. After all what is Martial Arts but sophisticated hitting, kicking, pushing and pulling. Even with a minimum of common-sense training you can attain maximum results - it's as SIMPLE as that.
The techniques, concepts and strategies compiled for S.T.O.P. require no special level of fitness, speed or strength. In fact, they were designed to compensate for the lack there of. The S.T.O.P. escape techniques utilize gross motor skills with natural body movement that maximize effectiveness while minimizing energy expenditure. S.T.O.P. concepts such as "Chi extension" or "Mushin"(mind without ego) prepare you mentally. Others like "The Helmet" or "The Gate" are quick and instinctive by nature. "Hard to soft, soft to hard" will sharpen your skills, and "Ghost hands", and "Tiger claws" are as effective as they sound.
I talk about Awareness, Assessment, Analytics and Action. Let me add Attitude to my list of A's. If you act like a victim, you raise the likelihood of being a victim. Walk and talk with confidence. Rapists and muggers tend to choose targets they perceive to be weak. When someone approaches who may be a possible threat, don't be afraid to appear to be unpromising. Give 'm a little “Not me attitude."
